Epithelial Tissue and Glands Flashcards
What role does epithelial tissue play in the body?
Covers organ surfaces, form glands, and serve for protection, secretion and absorption
What role does connective tissue play in the body?
Specialized to support, bind, and protect organs
What role does nervous tissue play in the body?
Specialized for rapid transmission of coded information to other cells.
What role does muscular tissue play in the body?
Specialized for contraction
Squamous epithelial
arranged in a single layer allows rapid diffusion or transport of substance
Cuboidal Epithelial
single layer of square or round cells for absorption.
Columnar Epithelial
Single layer of tall, narrow cells for absorption, secretion of mucus, movement of egg and embryo in the uterine tube.
Pseudo-stratified
looks multilayered, secretes and propels mucus
Transitional
somewhat resembles stratified squamous epithelium stretches to allow filling of urinary tract; protects underlying tissues from osmotic damage by urine.
