Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
This is cubed shape cell
Cuboidal
This is a column shape cell
Columnar
This secretes oil
Goblet cell
This type of tissue is typically a single layer and performs osmosis
Simple
This type of tissue is typically a thicker layered cell and mainly protects
Stratified
This tissue is a single layer of flattened cells: it’s function is diffusion and filtration and it secretes lubricating substances: it is found in the air sacs of lungs, lining of heart, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels etc
Simple squamous epithelium
This type of tissue is a single layer of cube like cells with large nuclei: it’s function is secretion and absorption(osmosis and filtration): it is found in the kidney, small glands, and ovaries
Simple cuboidal epithelium
This type of tissue has a single layer of tall cells, some contain cilia and some contain goblet cells: it’s main function is absorption and secretion: it is found in the digestive tract, gallbladder, glands, bronchi etc
Simple columnar epithelium
This type of tissue has a single layer of cells of differing heights, it may contain cilia and goblet cells: it’s main function is secretion of mucus: it is located in sperm carrying ducts, large glands, trachea, and respiratory tract
Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
This type of cell has several cell layers but the surface cells are flattened-surface cells are dead while basal cells are active: it’s main function is to protect underlying tissues: it is located in the esophagus, mouth, vagina, and skin
Stratified squamous epithelium
This type of tissue is rare and is typically two layers thick: it’s function is to protect: it is found in sweat and mammary glands
Stratified cuboidal epithelium
This tissue stretched readily: it is located in the ureters, bladder, and urethra
Transitional epithelium
This type of tissue is limited in the body, has multiple layers, and is column shaped: it’s main function is protection: it is located in the pharynx, male urethra
Stratified columnar epithelium
This is a scale shaped cell
Squamous
These are ductless glands, usually in clusters: their function is to secrete hormones(absorb): they are located everywhere
Endocrine glands
