Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
Four types of tissue
Epithelial tissue
Connective Tissue
Muscle tissue
Nervous tissue
Epithelial tissue function
Physical protection
Selective permeability
Secretions
Sensations
Types of SIMPLE epithelial tissue
Squamous
Cuboidal
Ciliated columnar
Non-ciliated columnar
ONE LAYER AMD ORGANIZED NUCLEI
Where is simple squamous found?
Alveoli and blood/lymph vessels
Where is simple cuboidal found?
Kidneys and thyroid glands
Where is non ciliated columnar found?
GI Tract
Where is ciliated columnar found?
Trachea, air passageway, and uterine tubes
Types of pseudo stratified epithelial tissue
Ciliated and non ciliated
All touch the basal membrane but the nuclei are scattered
Where is nonciliated pseudostratified columnar found?
Male urethra (rare)
Where is ciliated pseudostratified columnar found?
Nasal cavity, respiratory tract, and esophagus
Types of stratified epithelial tissue
Nonkeratinized squamous
Keratinized squamous
Cuboidal
Columnar
Transitional
MULTIPLE LAYERS
Where is nonkeratinized stratified squamous found?
Anus, vagina, esophagus, and oral cavity
Where is keratinized stratified squamous found?
Skin
Where is stratified cuboidal found?
Exocrine glands and ovarian follicles
Where is stratified columnar found?
Conjunctiva and salivary glands
