Carbamazepine
Zonisamide
Oxcarbamazepine
Tonic-clonic seizures
Two stages
1. Body goes stiff
2. Arms/legs begin twitching
1st line medication for tonic-clonic seizures
Valproate OR Carbamazepine
Alternative medication for tonic-clonic seizures
Lamotrigine
Absence seizures
Lose awareness, usually for 15 seconds
1st line medication for absence seizures
Ethosuximide
Alternative medication for absence seizures
Valproate OR Lamotrigine
Myoclonic seizures
Arms, legs or upper body jerks/twitches
1st line medication for myoclonic seizures
Valproate
Alternative medication for myoclonic seizures
Levetiracetam OR Topiramate
