Epigenetic Flashcards
1
Q
histone modification
A
the addition of an Acetyl group to a histone causes DNA to loosely coil around these proteins so the DNA is accessible to transcription factors and RNA polymerase so transcription can occur and the genes switched on
2
Q
what happens to epigenetic markers during DNA replication ?
A
the epigenetic markers are copied with the DNA so te correct set of genes remain active
3
Q
epigenetic changes during cell division
A
epigenetic markers are copied into new DNA of new cells so the same genes are switched on or off as the parent cell
4
Q
epigenetic markers in a sperm or egg cell?
A
a zygote must be totipotent so epigenetic markers on sperm and egg cells must be removed
