What is epidemiology?
The study of comparisons and intervention of diseases
What is an epidemic?
Whenever there is a CHANGE in the incidence of disease
What can we figure out by tracking the patterns of epidemics?
Who patient 0 (zero) is.
What is an epidemic
A short term increase of an epidemic disease over a short period of time
What is an endemic?
There’s an infectious agent in a geo location that is there all the time (I.e. Diabetes is endemic to Hispanics)
What is ‘prevalence’?
The number of cases
What is ‘incidence’?
The number of new cases
What’s an example of a sub clinical disease?
HIV
What is the ‘incubation period’?
Time you contract the ID and the time you start to develop symptoms.
What are humans carriers for?
AIDS, gonorrhea
Examples of a zoonosis disease.
Salmonella
Why is a wooden cutting board not perfect?
The bacteria can get into the crevices or pores of the wood!
