Stillbirth
A fetus born with no signs of life that is issued from its mother after 20 weeks gestation or weighing more than 400g if gestation unknown (births, deaths, marriages registration act 1995)
- at or after 28 weeks- WHO
- after 24 weeks- RCOG
Perinatal mortality
Fetal and early neonatal death from 20 weeks (or weighing at least 400g if gestation unknown) until midnight of the sixth day of life
Perinatal mortality rate
Perinatal mortality per 1000 live births/ stillbirths
Early neonatal death
Death that occurs up until midnight of the sixth day of life
Late neonatal death
Death that occurs between the seventh day and midnight of the 27th day of life
Infant mortality
Death of a baby between 28 days and 1 year of age
Maternal morbidity
Any health condition attributed to and/ or aggravated by pregnancy and childbirth that has a negative impact on the woman’s wellbeing
Maternal mortality
The death of a women while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental causes (WHO)
- direct causes- resulting from pregnancy- related condition
- indirect- resulting from previous existing disease or disease that developed during pregnancy and which was not due to direct obstetric causes, but which was aggravated by physiologic effects of pregnancy
Maternal mortality ratio
WHO- MMR is the number of maternal deaths per 100 000 LIVE BIRTHS over a specified period of time
NZ- MMR is the number of maternal deaths per 100 000 MATERNITIES over a specified period of time
