Epinephrine 1:1000, Dose?

A

Asthmatic bronchoconstriction, 0.3mg-0.5mg IM
Allergic reaction/Anaphylaxis, 0.3mg-0.5mg IM
Profound bradycardia, 2-10 mcg/min IVPB continuous infusion, titrated to effect
Mix 1mg in 500mL of Ns or D5W

A

Onset: Intramuscular, quick - 5-15 minutes
Duration: Intramuscular, 5-10 minutes

A
Asthmatic bronchospasm refractory doesn't respond to Albuterol and Atrovent.
Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
Profound, symptomatic bradycardia refractory to other treatments.

Epinephrine 1:1000, Precautions?

A

Monitor ECG closely.
Massage the site of injections.
Pts on beta blocks may need higher doses of epinephrine and/or Glucagon.

A

Tachycardia, MI, Chest pain, Arrhythmias, headache, nausea, restlessness

Epinephrine 1:1000, Special notes?

A

The Beta 1 effects of this drug require more myocardial oxygen demand.
Always watch the ECG for ventricular arrhythmias. Ask them about chest pain.
NEVER given Epinephrine 1:1000 IV Push!
