Albuterol, dosage?

A

Nebulized - 2.5mg over 5-15 minutes

  • If pt is improving after the 1st dose, 2 additional doses may be given.
  • If there is NO improvement after the 1st Albuterol dose, combine 2nd and 3rd doses of Albuterol w/ Ipratropium Bromide (Atrovent).

Indications that Albuterol is appropriate?

A

Bronchospasms from asthma or COPD.

*2nd line drug for allergic reactions unresponsive to epinephrine or Benadryl. (Pts in anaphylaxis need epinephrine first).
