Eph/ephrin signalling pathway Flashcards
What are EPH receptors and what family are they from?
EPH receptors are trans-membrane proteins from the Receptor Tyrosine Kinase family.
What does downstream transduction of the signal involve?
Downstream transduction of the signal involves the oligomerisation and cytoplasmic cross-phosphorylation of the receptors.
How are EPHs classified and according to what?
EPHs are classified in type-A and type-B, according to the Ephrin ligand they bind to
What are ephrin-A ligands attached to?
Ephrin-A ligands are attached to the membrane by a lipid modification
What are ephrin-B ligads?
Ephrin-B ligands are transmembrane proteins
What can EPH receptors bind to either of and what exception is there?
EPH receptors can only bind to either Ephrin-A or Ephrin-B ligands, with one exception: EPHA4, which can bind to both types of ligands.
What does an interaction between Ephrin ligands and EPH receptors lead to?
The interaction between Ephrin ligands and EPH receptors leads to a bidirectional response – in both the receiving and the signalling cell.
