*3. FUEL SHUTOFF handle - DOWN
*4. GTS - START
*5. IGNITION switch - ISOLATE
When rpm below 20 percent and GTS advisory light illuminates:
*6. ENGINE switch - START
If GTS is no longer required:
7. ENGINE switch - OFF
GTS FIRE
GROUND:
*1. Execute Emergency Shutdown/Egress
IN-FLIGHT
*1. ENGINE switch - OFF
2. Check for secondary indications of fire.
If fire confirmed or flight controls lost:
3. Eject
If fire not confirmed and control effectiveness remains:
4. Land as soon as possible.
Trim Malfunctions
TRIM RUNAWAY:
- STBY stabilator trim - ACTIVATE
- Airspeed - REDUCE (As practical)
TRIM FAILURE:
- Attempt to trim from both cockpits
- Airspeed - REDUCE (As practical)
- STBY stabilator trim - AS REQUIRED
ENGINE FIRE WITH SECONDARY INDICATIONS
GROUND:
*1. Execute Emergency Shutdown/Egress
TAKEOFF:
If fire is confirmed and unable to abort:
*2. Eject
IN-FLIGHT *1. Throttle - MINIMUM FOR SAFE FLIGHT *2. Secondary Indications - CHECK If secondary indications exist or fire confirmed: *3. Eject.
Engine Overspeed
EGT/RPM Warning Light
Simultaneously Perform Steps 1 & 2 *1. Throttle - MINIMUM FOR SAFE FLIGHT *2. Controls - NEUTRALIZE *3. EGT/RPM - MONITOR If EGT is greater than 450C for more than 6 seconds after throttle IDLE: *4. Execute Airstart if EGT and rpm indications normal: 5. Throttle - MINIMUM REQUIRED FOR SAFE FLIGHT 6. Land as soon as practical
Engine Flameout
ENGINE FAILURE
If below 1,500 feet AGL and airspeed below 180 KIAS
*1. Eject
If above 1,500 feet AGL or airspeed greater than 180 KIAS:
*2. Execute Airstart.
IMMEDIATE AIRSTART *1. Emergency oxygen green ring(s) - PULL *2. Throttle - OFF Simultaneously perform steps *3. and *4. *3. GTS start button - PRESS AND HOLD *4. Throttle - IDLE
If unsuccessful and altitude and airspeed available:
5. Execute Failure to Relight Procedure
If successful
6. Execute Successful Airstart Procedure.
ECA failure (full trim)
ECA 2 Caution (indicates dual channel failure)
indications:
fuel flow is reduced
EGT and RPM will decrease
thrust available will be governed by maximum RPM obtained
- Do not exceed 90% above FL200 or 95% below FL200, do not exceed 600C EGT
- Land as soon as practical (Precautionary Approach recommended)
If engine instability exists:
- Throttle - BETWEEN IDLE AND MIDRANGE, if practical
- FUEL CONTR switch - MANUAL
- Throttle - AS REQUIRED (Maintain rpm above 70%, if practical)
- Land as soon as practical (Precautionary Approach recommended)
Engine Vibration
E9 VIBRATIONS
- Throttle - MINIMUM FOR SAFE FLIGHT
- Engine instruments - MONITOR
If engine indications are normal and vibrations continue:
- Altitude - DESCEND BELOW 10,000 FEET IF POSSIBLE
- AIR FLOW knob - OFF
If vibrations continue:
- Reduce airspeed
- AIR FLOW knob - NORMAL/AS DESIRED
- Request inspection by other aircraft, if practical
- Land as soon as practical
Engine Stalls
COMPRESSOR STALL INFLIGHT simultaneously perform steps *1. and *2.: *1. Throttle - Minimum for safe flight *2. Controls - NEUTRALIZE *3. EGT/rpm - MONITOR If EGT is greater than 450C for more than 6 seconds after throttle IDLE: *4. Execute Airstart If EGT and rpm indications are normal: 5. Throttle - MINIMUM FOR SAFE FLIGHT 6. Land as soon as practical.
Engine Failure (SEIZURE)
If below 1,500 feet AGL and airspeed below 180 KIAS:
*1. Eject
If above 1,500 feet AGL or airspeed greater than 180 KIAS:
*2. Execute airstart
“Maximum range gliding distance is severely reduced with a seized engine. If rpm remains at zero and the READY advisory light does not come on during GTS assisted start, engine seizure is confirmed.”
FAILURE TO RELIGHT
If engine will not start and MFDs needed:
5. GEN switch - RESET
6. DISPLAY POWER switch - ORIDE. DEU, SADS, both left MFDs, and the VCR/CEU are powered by the 28 Vdc essential services bus.
PLANNED EJECTION
“When a planned ejection is necessary, the aircraft will normally be vectored by Kingsville Approach Control to the EAST of NAS Kingsville. Kingsville Approach Control will initiate the SAR procedures, vector helicopters, and provide assistance to the airborne on-scene-commander.”
If NORDO, a pilot faced with a planned ejection situation should broadcast intentions on GUARD, SQUAWK 7700, proceed southeast on the NQI R-115, and then EJECT BETWEEN 5-15 DME.”
Oil pressure failure
- Throttle - MINIMUM FOR SAFE FLIGHT
- Minimize throttle movements
- Land as soon as possible (Precautionary Approach Recommended)
- Minimize throttle movements
Short Field Arrestment
- Hook - DOWN
- Flaps - HALF, if practical
If directional control not in question, perform a roll-in engagement:
3. Plan a normal approach to touch down approximately 500 feet prior to arresting gear.
After touchdown:
4. Maintain approach power setting and landing attitude (approx 5 degrees nose-up/one-half aft stick) and avoid use of brakes.
When arrestment is assured:
5. Throttle - IDLE
If directional control is in question perform a fly-in engagement:
7. Plan a fly-in approach to touch down within 50 feet of arresting gear.
Immediately upon touchdown, simultaneously perform the following:
8. Throttle - MRT
9. Speedbrakes - RETRACT
10. Rudder - AS REQUIRED TO COUNTER SWERVE
11. Stick - SMOOTHLY APPLY FULL AFT STICK
Go Around
- Throttle - MRT
- Speed brakes - RETRACT
- Rotate to obtain positive rate of climb (not to exceed 24 units AOA).
