epidemiology
A
female and caucasian predominance, 40-60 yo

what is the main association?
A
a/w strenuous activity/exercise (1/3 of patients). other triggers include trauma, borreliosis, statin use

clinical features
A
symmetric edema/induration & PAINFUL extremities with eosinophilia on CBC. spares hands/feet/face. “dry river bed” or “groove sign” - veins trapped within indurated skin

dermpath
A
massive thickening and fibrosis of deep fascia, lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate

treatment
A
- systemic steroids (or plaquenil, cyclosporine, dapsone, MTX, etc)
- physical therapy to prevent contractures
