Enzymology Flashcards
What Enzyme Class is Ligase?
Enzyme Class 6 (EC6)
Give an example of Isomerase
Phosphoglucoisomerase
Name an example of Hydrolase
Chymotrypsin
What Enzyme Class is Isomerase?
Enzyme Class 5 (EC5)
Give an example of Oxioreductase
G3P Dehydrogenase–Glyceraldehyde 3-P reacted with NAD+ to get 1,3- Biphosphoglycerate
If water is present with one substrate, but two products are formed, what enzyme class would most likely be present?
EC3-Hydrolase
What is the main function of Lyase
Bond cleavage by elimination
Name the 6 Classes of Enzymes
- Oxioreductase
- Transferase
- Hydrolase
- Lyase
- Isomerase
- Ligase
What is the main function of Isomerase
Intermolecular rearragement
If substrate and product have the same molecular formula but different structure, what enzyme class is most likely present?
EC5 - Isomerase
What is NTP
Nucleic Triphosphate (ATP, CTP, TTP, GTP)
What is the main function of Oxioreductase
Transfer of Electrons
What is the main function of Ligase
NTP-Dependent bond formation
What is the main function of Transferase
Transfer of functional groups
What Enzyme Class is Transferase?
Enzyme Class 2 (EC2)
What Enzyme Class is Oxioreductase?
Enzyme Class 1 (EC1)
What Enzyme Class is Hydrolase?
Enzyme Class 3 (EC3)
If there is one substrate and two products but no net water, what enzyme class is most likely present?
EC4 - Lyase
What should I recognize as a Hydrolase reaction?
Water with ONE substrate, TWO products
If NAD+ is present, what enzyme class is most likely present?
EC1 - Oxioreductase
Give an example of Transferase
Hexokinase and ATP - one of the phosphate groups gets added onto the substrate
What should I recognize for a transferase reaction?
Same number of products as there are substrates. A small amount of one substrate ends up on the other.
What is the main function of Hydrolase
Single bond cleavage by the leaving of water
What Enzyme Class is Lyase?
Enzyme Class 4 (EC4)
What should I recognize as a Isomerase recation?
Typically one substrate and product–same number of substrates and products. Substrate and product have the same molecular formula.
What should I recognize as a Ligase reaction?
An NTP is present but not incorporated into the products (phosphate group is not added onto the product). Some substrate is added onto another substrate.
Give an example of Lyase
Fructose biphosphate aldolase
If there are the same number of products as there are substrates, what enzyme class is most likely present?
EC2 - Transferase
What should I recognize as a Lyase reaction?
No water present. One substrate and two products.
What should you recognize for an oxioreductase reaction?
- NAD+/NADH; FAD/FAD+; Q/QH2
- Product has more Oxygens than substrate
