Q

How would the rate of reaction change when different factors changed?

A
  • If the concentration of enzyme increases, the reaction rate increases
  • If the temperature increases, the reaction rate increases
  • Exception to this is when the temperature gets too high the proteins are irreversibly denatured and the reaction slows
  • Every enzyme has an optimal pH, and changing the optimal pH can change the 3D shape of an enzyme

Q

What is the difference between competitive and noncompetitive inhibitors?

A
  • Competitive inhibitors mimic the substrate and compete for position at an active site.
  • Noncompetitive inhibitors bind at an allosteric site which is different from where the substrate binds. Therefore, increasing substrate concentration would have no effect in
    reversing noncompetitive inhibition
