enzymes & ROR Flashcards
explain how to calculate the initial rate of an enzyme controlled reaction
the slope of the rapid increase in a graph y value/x value
explain how to calculate the initial rate of an enzyme controlled reaction
slope of the rapid phase of the reaction= change in y/change in x
explain the effect of increasing substrate concs on the rate of an enzyme controlled reaction
if the substrate is the liniting factor then increasing the conc of substrate will increase the amount of successful collisions between the enzyme active sites and the substrate therefore decreasing the time it takes to form enzyme substrate complexes so it increases the rate of reaction, however if enzymes are the limiting factor then increasing the substrate conc will have no effect on the rate of reaction as all the active sites are filled
explain the effect of increasing enzyme concentrations on the rate of an enzyme controlled reaction
increasing the concentration of enzymes will mean there are more active sites available for the substrate to bind to so the rate of reaction will increase if enzymes are the limiting factor of the reaction
