Enzymes - functions Flashcards
Catalyses the synthesis of ATP and it is embedded in the thylakoid membrane.
ATP Synthase
Catalyses the hydrolysis of ATP
ATP Hydrolase
A co-enzyme that transfers hydrogen from one molecule to another during photosynthesis (reduces + oxidises)
NADP
Rubulose biphosphate (RuBP) combines with CO2 to form 2 x Glycerate 3-phosphate (3C) using the enzyme
Rubisco (ribulose bisphosphate carboxylic)
The three co-enzymes used in Respiration
NAD, FAD and co-enzyme A
An enzyme that synthesises RNA from DNA
RNA polymerase
An enzyme that makes a DNA copy of RNA
Reverse transcriptase
An enzyme that recognises specific recognition sequences and cuts DNA at these places
Restriction endonuclease enzyme
An enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of proteins
Peptidases
An enzyme that joins together the sticky ends of DNA fragments
Ligase
What is an enzyme?
A protein that speeds up the rate of chemical reactions, biological catalyst that doesn’t get used up
An endopeptidase enzyme that hydrolyses peptide bonds within a protein
Dipeptidases
An enzyme that hydrolyses peptide bonds within a protein
Endopeptidase
An enzyme that hydrolyses the peptide bonds at the end of proteins to remove single amino acids
Exopeptidase
An enzyme that transfers hydrogen and electrons from one molecule to another
Dehydrogenase
