Q

Pyruvate carboxylase (replacement of pyruvate Kinase)

A

Catalyzes the conversion of pyruvate to oxalacetate. The metabolically irreversible reaction is coupled to the hydrolysis of one molecule of ATP.

Oxaloacetate can enter the citric acid cylce or serve as a precursor for glucose biosynthesis.

Q

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase

A

Catalyzes the conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate.

The enzyme found in bacteria, protists, fungi and plants use ATP as the phosphoryl group donor in the decarboxylation reaction. The animal version uses GTP.
