enzyme action Flashcards
1
Q
non competitive inhibitors
A
binds to enzyme at point other than active site - alters shape of active site so substates can no longer occupy it. an increase in substrate conc doesn’t have an effect bc inhibitor is not competing for the same site
1
Q
competitive inhibitors
A
bind to enzyme at active site - competes w substrate for available active sites, eventually all substrates will bind, conc of inhibitor determines how long this will take/effect on enzyme activity
2
Q
end product inhibition
A
keeps conc of chemical relatively constant - end product inhibits first enzyme at beginning of metabolic pathway - if conc of end product is too high, more inhibition (usually non competitive).
