Envoy Interview Flashcards
What is the speed limit below 10,000’?
250 kts (at and above 10,000ft there’s none)
What is the conversion to zulu time?
+4 for EST and +5 for CST
What is the speed restriction in class b and d airspace?
200 kts within 4 miles of class d and 200 kts in area underlying class B airspace, unless instructed by ATC
What are the 3 stages of a thunderstorm?
Cumulus, Mature, Dissipating
What are grid MORAs and what do they look like on a chart?
same as OROCAs (Minimum off route altitude)
What is the difference between fly by and fly over waypoints?
A fly by point is a point that you don’t need to go over just by (shown without a circle on the chart) while a fly over waypoint has a circle and you are required to fly directly over that point.
What is the star without a circle on an airport diagram?
Hazard beacon (star with circle around it is airport rotating beacon)
How much clearance are you guaranteed at the MSA?
1000 ft above the highest obstacle
What is accelerate stop distance?
the distance required to accelerate to V1 with all engines at takeoff power, experience an engine failure just before V1, abort the takeoff and bring the airplane to a stop using only braking action without the use of reverse thrust.
What is required for a thunderstorm to form?
- Unstable air 2. Moisture 3. Lifting Action
When do you need an alternate? And what are the requirements?
1-2-3 rule (if weather is forecasted to be less than 2000 ft ceilings or 3 SM visibility from 1 hour before to 1 hr after then an alternate is required to be filed); for an airport with a precision approach its required to be forecast 600-2 for a non precision 800-2; if no instrument approaches exist then it needs to be forecasted where you can descend from MEA to land.
At what altitudes does RVSM airspace begin and end? And what is RVSM?
FL290 - FL410; Reduced vertical separation minima - assigned altitudes separated by a minimum of 1,000 feet rather than the 2,000-foot minimum separation currently required above FL290
What if the weather goes below minimums and we are inside the FAF?
You can continue, but must not land if the visibility does not improve
What is a critical engine?
The engine that when failed, most adversely affects the airplane
Explain 3:1 rule
For every 1000 ft of altitude loss it will take 3NM with a 3 degree glide slope. Estimate for descent rate (fpm) divide groundspeed by 2 and multiple by 100.
What will be the hardest part of working for Envoy?
Transitioning from small airplanes to jets and knowing/learning what the best way to ensure customers have the best experience possible
What makes a good captain?
Someone who stays calm underpressure, a great communicator and an effective decision maker who knows their airplane and how to manage people
What makes a good First Officer?
A pilot who is knowledgeable about the airplane, safety conscious, listens well, gets along with others and can influence others.
Why do you want to work for Envoy?
Because Envoy seems like a stable company that would allow me to grow and advance my career.
What will be the hardest part of training?
The type training because I think all type trainings are difficult but fun. I know that if I prepare, study and listen to my instructors that I can do it
What are two things that define a professional pilot?
Safety conscious and knowledgeable; we must know our airplane and the regulations in order to make sure our customers get where they need to go safely and
on time. Honorable mention professionalism
When did you know you wanted to be a pilot?
When I took my first flight I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. And I wanted to be the one flying. To me it is still the coolest, best profession
