=Specifies the order of preference for dealing with our waste those at the top = more desirable

What does REDUCE mean?
REDUCE YOUR RUBBISH
= using less means there is less to throw away
What does REUSE mean?
REUSE bags, card, bottles, jars, paper and other materials rather than throwing them away
What does RECYCLE mean?
RECYCLING = processing of waste products to provide the raw material to make new ones
How can we REDUCE?
- Buying only the right quantity of what we really need
- Choosing products with mess packaging
- Making ‘green’ choices and buying refill packs
How can we REUSE?
- Giving unwanted items to charity
- Selling goods online or through newspaper
- Repairing appliances rather than buying again
- Refurbishing old furniture
How do we RECYCLE FOOD WASTAGE?
- Cake = trifle
- Meat = shepherds pie
- Chicken = curry
- Potato = fish cakes
- Apples = pies, crumbled, preserves
How can we RECYCLE?
- Saving plastic bottles to be made into fleeces or funiture
- Saving paper, card and magazines
- Taking waste materials to local recycling banks
- Saving aluminium cans
POSITIVE EFFECTS OF RECYCLING?
- Saves valuable resources used to manufacture products
- Prolongs life of landfill sites
- Boost economy (recycling creates jobs)
- Protects plant and wildlife habitats due to reduced necessary extraction
What are the main factors that influence the QUALITY OF OUR ENVIRONMENT?
- Global warming
- Ozone depletion
- Acid rain
- Deforestation

What is GLOBAL WARMING?
= the increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere
What is OZONE DEPLETION?
=depleted (broken down) areas of the ozone layer due to CloroFloroCarbons that release chloride in the atmosphere turning ozone into oxygen
What is ACID RAIN?
=rain containing acids that form in the atmosphere when industrial gas emissions (sulphur dioxide & nitrogen oxides) combine with water
