What is to be done if there is a MARPOL incident?
At Sea - OOD
In Harbour - OOW
How can oil leakage into bilge be minimized?
Keep machinery clean.
Monitor lube oil ready use tanks and investigate any losses.
No chemicals to be used, only wet wipes.
AFFF Only in real fire risk situations.
Eductors to be manned when in operation.
Make use of shore side facilities.
What is black water?
Sewage
What is grey water?
Waster from bathrooms, galleys, dishwashers, laundries, sinks.
What are BW discharge regulations at:
0-4 NM?
4-12NM?
12NM+?
0-4: Discharge allowed if an IMO approved STP is in operation.
4-12: Discharge allowed if an IMO approved system to commute and disinfect the sewage is in operation.
12+: No treatment necessary to discharge.
What is VPS and what does it consist of?
Vacuum Pumping System.
Consists of a “fitted for ship” set of diesel, electric driven pumps, manifolds & hoses, via which all black water and grey water discharges can be collected and pumped to available shore facility.
