gram negative, non sporulating, straight rods, facultative aerobes, catalase positive, oxidase negative, glucose fermenters
hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)
caused by release of shiga toxin, mainly affects kids, seen with shigella and e. coli infections
reactive arthritis
conjunctivitis and urethritis and arthritis, occurs after an infection by shigella, salmonella, yersinia, campylobacter, chlamydia.
