What is the definition of vertigo?
It refers to a false sensation of movement (spinning or rotation) of the person or their surroundings in the absence of any actual physical movement.
How is vertigo different from other types of dizziness?
Dizziness can be a range of sensations including feeling light-headed, faint, woozy, giddy, unsteady, off-balance or weak.
Vertigo is centred around a false sense of movement.
What are the definitions of syncope and pre-syncope?
Syncope = A transient, spontaneous loss of consciousness followed by complete recovery.
Pre-syncope = near-fainting.
What is nystagmus?
What is meant by the slow phase and fast phase of jerk nystagmus?
A rhythmical, repetitive and involuntary movement of the eyes.
A slow phase which causes the eyes to drift in a certain direction and a fast phase which bring the eyes back to primary position (central position).
