Mainstay of treatment for acute sinusitis?
Steroids or allergy meds
Abx after 10-14 days: amoxicillin or doxycycline
Tx of aphthous ulcer?
topical corticosteroid
cimetidine for maintenance if suspect GI acid
Blepharitis tx?
Lid scrub, lid massage
Allergic conjuncitivitis tx?
Diphenhydramine
Cetirizine (Zyrtec)
Loratadine (Claritin)
Fexofenadine (Allegra)
Azelastine (eye drop)
Viral conjuncitivitis tx?
eye lavage, warm compress
Bacterial conjuncitivitis tx?
FQ if contact lens
Sulfonamides
Aminoglycosides
Dacrocystitis tx?
Warm compress and abx
Anterior epistaxis tx?
Apply direct pressure + sit and lean forward for 15min
*topical decongestant or anesthetics or topical cocaine to vasoconstrict
Posterior epistaxis tx?
Posterior epistaxis = bleeding down the back of the throat
High risk – specialist eval and inpatient monitoring
Hordeolum tx?
Warm compress
Hyphema?
Tx?
Blood pools into the anterior chamber
Refer
Steroid drops + eye patch + limited eye movement + check eye pressure daily
Labrynthitis symptoms and findings on physical exam?
Acute severe vertigo, dizziness, recent URI, hearing loss
PE: conductive hearing loss
-W lateralizes to affected side
-R bone conduction is longer
Laryngitis characteristic sx?
Tx?
Hoarseness! maybe cough. Pt might be a singer
Tx: vocal rest; if bacterial give erythromycin/augmentin; steroids may hasten recovery
Drusen bodies are indicative of?
Macular degeneration
