inspect the mouth floor, palate and uvula
floor: swelling or nodules. palate: nodules, torus, palatinus. uvula bifid
inspection of oropharynx
deviation of uvula, tonsillar size and color.
assess soft plate, test CN IX and X
movement of soft palate
inspect posterior wall
color, smoothness, exudate
palpate lips, buccal, labial mucosa and gums
lesions, plauques, nodules, ulcerations, thickening or masses
palpate tongue, floor of mouth and palate
coating, lumps, nodules, ulcerations
pneumatic otoscopy
+ TM is immobile
Weber test
+ sound lateralizes to: (imparied ear = conductive hearing loss) OR (unaffected ear = sensinerual loss)
Rhine test
+ conductive loss BC = AC or BC > AC. (+) sensineural loss AC>BC but less than 2:1
Transilliumnate sinuses
(+) absence of light glow through palate or above the eyebrow
Peform dix-hallpike maneuver
+ nystagmus usually begins after 5-10 seconds
