Define SSNHL

A

A subset of SHL that is a) sensorineural in nature, and b) meets certain audiometric criteria (decreasing in hearing of greater than or equal to 30 decibels, affecting at least 3 consecutive frequencies.

A

In the cochlea, auditory nerve, or higher aspects of central auditory perception or processing.

A

Vestibular Schwannoma (acoustic neuroma), stroke and malignancy.

A

Education
Systemic and topical steroids
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Middle ear surgery for fistula repair
Observation

A

Do audiometry and order MRI.
Don’t do bloods or CT.
