What is breakthrough pain?
A transient exacerbation of pain that occurs either spontaneously or in relation to a predictable or unpredictable trigger despite relatively stable and adequatly controlled BG pain.
What information should be prescribed for breakthrough pain?
Name, dose, route, frequency, max dose, indication.
What is the dose for breakthrough pain?
1/6th total daily opioid consumption.
If using breakthrough over 3 times per day, indicates that regular SR analgesic opioid was insufficient.
What are three important prognostic factors for imminent decline?
Functional status, Admissions, Comorbidities.
What are the short term signs of decline?
A - secretions, noisy breathing.
B - Resp distress, cyanosis
C: Pallor, grey, poor perfusion, CRT, Oedema, Tachy, hypotnesive, weak pulse
D - Decreased GCS< delirious, febrile
Eating and drinking: anorexia
