Enhanced greenhouse effect Flashcards
1
Q
enhanced greenhouse effect definition
A
The disruption to Earth’s climate equilibrium caused by the increased concentrations of greenhouse gases has led to an increase in the global average surface temperatures
2
Q
causes of enhanced greenhouse effect
A
- Economic development contributes to the EGHE.
- China needs to burn more fossil fuels to power its industries
- more people can afford cars or to travel abroad by plane, which leads to more transport emissions
- Meat consumption has increased which leads to more methane and more deforestation in the Amazon, for land & to grow soy = more C02.
3
Q
impact of enhabced greenhouse effect
A
- More droughts have been occurring in China leading to desertification. This could mean it is more difficult to produce food & provide water.
- Tropical diseases may spread North from Africa into Europe.
- Melting ice caps and glaciers in the Himalayas could cause flooding in the region & there could in the future be a lack of fresh water.
- Sea levels likely to rise and cause flooding
- Impacts on species, food chains & biodiversity.
