4.1 prejudice

the belief in the natural superiority of one race over another In the play society is turned on its head. A powerful black wealthy class discriminates against the whites.

the fact of being who or what a person or thing is.

when a lot of people come together to show others that they strongly like or are against an idea or event

7.1 beginning
Engage your reader, absorb them into your ‘story world’. Establish the time, place and general situation. Develop a suitable mood.
7.2 rising action
Introduce an incident or character that will spark your climax. Build the tension.
7.3 climax
The key event in your story: the problem reaches a head. When you plan your story think of this first.
7.4 ending
This must leave your reader with a sense of satisfaction. All loose ends must be tied up.
Use a cyclical structure (refer back to something you said at the very beginning)
8.1 continuity
This is the way in which paragraphs are joined together so that writing happens without any pause or change
8.2 topic sentence
This opening sentence will alert the reader to what the rest of the paragraph will be about.
8.3 transition sentence
The first sentence of a following paragraph should link with the final sentence of the last paragraph. This acts like a signpost to create a sense of continuity.
8.4 discourse markers
These are phrases that help hold an argument together. They act as signposts for the reader to show where you are in the argument: on the other hand; however; in addition; furthermore; consequently.
9.1 independent clause
a group of words that has a main verb and a subject and can stand alone.
9.2 subordinate clause
a clause that cannot stand alone; it adds information to a main clause
9.3 embedded clause
a clause used in the middle of another clause to give the reader more information
9.4 fragment
an incomplete sentence
