Memory
Memory is the ability to recall impressions and events from across a period of time. The word memory traces back to the Latin memoria meaning mindful or remembering. A memory is unique to each person.
Free choice
Free choice is to have the liberty to make your
own decisions and to have your own personal rights. The word free traces back to the Old English freo meaning acting of one’s own will and can be linked to the idea of friendship and love. Free choice is the idea that we choose our own path in life.
The individual Vs society
The individual vs society is the conflict between one person’s ideas vs what the majority think or believe. The word individual traces back to the Latin dividere meaning divide and the word society traces back to the Latin socius meaning companionship.
It is the battle between one person and the rest of the world.
Rules
Rules are a set of instructions or principles by which we live our lives and maintain order in society. The word rules traces back to the Old French riule which means customs or order and is linked to religion. Rules are necessary to keep order and peace.
structure and coherence
The different ways that texts are put together in order to create logical sequences and effects.
spelling and grammar
Accuracy of spelling and punctuation and the use of it to create effects in texts.
awareness of impact
The understanding and explanation of the impact of word choices and structural features on readers. It includes an understanding of genre, audience and purpose.
understanding of context
An understanding and explanation of the impact of the author of the text and the time it was written, as well as the intended audience.
using evidence
The use of quotations and reference to the text to support ideas. Embedding of evidence makes your writing more sophisticated
analysing technique
An understanding and analysis of the language of a text to reveal the effects and meanings intended by the writer.
