paragraph
a group of related sentences
main idea
the main point, or the central message of a paragraph
topic sentence
the first, or the second (mostly) sentence of a paragraph that states the main idea of a paragraph
supporting sentences
details that support, explain, or prove the main idea
facts
statements that can be tested, and proved true
examples
specific instances of an idea
sensory details
details that you can see, smell, touch, taste, or hear, mentally, and visually
clincher sentence
a sentence that ties together the information in your own supporting details to remind the reader of the importance of your own main idea
coherence
something that occurs when the details in a paragraph are arranged, and connected in a way that makes sence to the reader
transitional words/phrases
the time order in which events happen/special words that help show how ideas are related
elaboration
a good paragraph that explains, or illustrates the supporting facts, and details so that the reader has a clear picture of the main idea
unity
`when all of the sentences in a paragraph work together to support the main idea.

something that presents or organizes details according to their location.
chronological order
something that presents details in the order in which they happen
order of importance
when you arrange details from least important to most important or most important to least important.
logical order
when you arrange ideas into groups
narrative
something that is used to tell a story or to recount an event.
descriptive
something that is used to describe a person, animal, scene or object
expository
something that is used to provide information including facts, instructions and definitions
persuasive
something that is used to share opinions and convinces others to agree with those opinions and sometimes will take action.
