Simile
Linking a characteristic to a quality of something completely different. eg strong as an ox hard as nails flat as a pancake hot as hell
Assonance
A repeated sound between consonants

Metaphor
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
eg

Onamatopoeia
An onomatopoeia is a word that actually looks like the sound it makes, and we can almost hear those sounds as we read.
eg
: slam, splash, bam, babble, warble, gurgle, mumble, and belch
Repitition
The repeated use a a word in a line or poem
Personification
the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human
eg
hitler was the personification of intolerance
mother terresea was the personification of compassion
Consonance
Consonance is a pleasing sounding caused by the repetition of consonant sounds within sentences, phrases, or in poems.
Typically this repetition occurs at the end of the words, but may also be found within a word or at the beginning.
