Denotation
The dictionary Definition of a word.
Connotation
the Emotional moeaning of a word.
Static Character
A Static Character remains the same throughout the story. His or her ideas or attitudes do not change no matter what happens (but they may change physically such as growing taller.)
Dynamic Character
A Dynamic Character undergoes changes in ideals or attitudes as the story progresses.
Analogy
An analogy is a word exercise that shws aa comparsion between two sets of words using the relationship between the two words in the set such as part to whole, antonyms, synonyms, degrees, or some other criteria.
Author’s Purpose
The Author’s Purpose is the reason the author writes a novel or poem.
What is PIE annd what does it stand for?
PIE is the acronym for the 3 different reasons for Author’s Purpose. It means to Persuade, to Inform, or to Entertain.
Irony
Irony is when the opposite of what you expect to happen happens.
What are the 3 types of Irony?
Verbal, Situational, and Dramatic
Verbal Irony
Verbal when what is said has the opposite meaning.
Situational Irony
Situational when the opposite of what you expect to happen does happen.
Dramatic Irony
Dramatic when the protagnoist doesn’t know what is going to happen, but the reader or audience knows.
