Preposition
A word used to nouns, pronouns, and phrases (as of, to, for, with, on)
Parallelism
A ideas in sentence should be expressed the same way (ex. Both a kind and generous person)
Faulty Parallelism
ex. both kind and a generous person
Fragment
A sentence that is missing something such as a subject (ex. Didn’t run fast enough)
Perfect tenses
Present Perf (ex. I had worked, he had written) Past Perf (ex. I had worked, he had written) Future Perf (ex. I will have worked, he will have written)
Past participle
begun, broken, eaten, spoken, given, grown, gotten, fallen
Adjective
modify nouns or pronouns
Ex. blue, tall, long, second, three, several
Adverb
Modify verbs, adjectives
ex. Quickly, away, yesterday, very, sometimes
Capitalization
Capitalize adjectives derived from proper nouns (ex. My English teacher…), Capitalize titles when they preceed a proper name (ex. The Memo came from Dean Jacobson)
Faulty Capitalization
Compass directions NWES, names of seasons, titles (ex.mom, dad, uncle, cousin, president, dean, major)
