Engines and Apu Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Electronic Engine Control (EEC)?
N1 thrust limits
Redline protection: N1 & N2 overboost AND EGT protection during ground starting only
Engine Start Protections
Minimum Idle power settings
Above the N1 on the upper display indicator is a REV indicator. What is the color logic of this
indication?
REV (amber) = Reverser sleeve moves from the stowed position (in transit or disagree)
REV (green) = Thrust reverser is deployed properly & can be raised to detent 2
On overhead panel- after 10 sec it stays illuminated
at 12 sec master caution comes on
SH 7.010 pg 51
How do you display the Fuel Used?
Engine Display Control Panel:
Fuel Flow Toggle Switch: Reset / Rate / Used
SH 7.010 pg 32
What is indicated by the ENGINE CONTROL light?
illuminates when the EEC detects faults in the Engine Control System that are NOT dispatchable.
The light is functional when all of the conditions listed below:
- a no dispatch engine fault occurs
- engine is operating (N2 is greater than 50% with start lever in IDLE)
- aircraft on ground:
• groundspeed is below 80 kts prior to takeoff
• approximately 30 seconds after touchdown
SH 7.010 pg 13
ENGINE CONTROL light Is it dispatchable?
NO
SH 7.010 pg 13
Which light(s) indicate the EECs are in Normal Mode?
ON (white)
SH 7.010 pg 10
What indicates an EGT exceedance after engine shutdown?
Red Box around the EGT digital readout
SH 7.010 pg 24
How is a hot start indicated during ground starting?
Flashing white EGT value
SH 7.010 pg 48
Which position(s) does a start switch need to be in for both igniters to activate in case of an engine flameout?
ANY position
SH 7.010 pg 45
o Switch positions • GRD • Open start valve • Close engine bleeds • Begins start sequence • OFF • CONT • How Boeing spells ON – igniters fire continuously • Used during: o Takeoff and landing o Engine Anti Ice Operation o Moderate or Greater rain or snow o Hail or Freezing Precip. • FLT • Fires both igniters continuously • Only used for severe turbulence o No matter position of switch, if it sense engine failure or rollback occurs (N2 below 50% and TLA at idle), it will fire to attempt a relight.
When do the EECs select approach idle with Engine Anti-Ice on?
Engine anti-ice selected on for either engine, or
Flaps in the landing configuration
SH 7.010 pg 12
The EECs provide redline protection for which parameters?
N1 and N2 and EGT (on ground only during start)
SH 7.010 pg 12
EECs will abort an engine start for which start malfunctions?
All start malfunctions (on the ground) except a failure of the start valve (START
VALVE OPEN annunciator will stay ON)
SH 7.010 pg 48
What causes the ENG FAIL alert on the N2?
Below 50% N2
SH 7.010 pg 25
What does the APU provide?
Auxiliary AC power source & bleed air for engine starting and air conditioning
SH 7.020 pg 1
What powers the APU Electronic Control Unit?
Battery
Switched Hot Battery Bus
*Turning the Battery Switch to OFF will shut down the APU
SH 7.020 pg 3
