Engineer Quick Guide Flashcards

1
Q

When breathing air in the basket on L201 and L204, what psi should the basket be kept at?

A

Q

What is the emergency air brake used for?

A

Depressing green emergency button will temporarily release brakes so apparatus can be moved off of roadway – maximum speed 2 mph. WARNING: When using emergency brake release, there are no service brakes.

16
Q

What is the normal operating PSI range for engine oil?

A

15-80 psi when cold or at high idle;

5-20 psi when hot and at idle

17
Q

What is the normal range for voltage on the apparatus?

A

normal reading is between 13.5 - 14.8

18
Q

What are possible reasons for a low reading?

A
  1. loose or missing belts
  2. low state of battery charge
  3. current load on alternator is greater than alternator can produce
  4. defective alternator
19
Q

What are the normal air pressures for front and rear air brakes?

A

both front and rear should be between 90-130 psi

20
Q

What is the normal operating temperature for transmission oil on apparatus?

A

160-220 degrees F is normal, with maximum of 330 degrees F intermittently

21
Q

How long should the toggle switch be depressed after cab has settled?

A

Keep toggle switch depressed for 5 seconds after cab has settled completely and the rear cab locks have engaged. Red indicator light at panel will go off.

22
Q

How much do the rpm’s increase with each push of switch on pressure governor?

A

each press will increase engine rpm by 25

23
Q

When in pressure mode, how much will pressure increase/decrease with each movement?

A

when in pressure mode, each movement of the switch will increase or decrease PDP by 4 psi.

24
Q

What percentage is the retarder set for and what does this mean?

A

Quantum’s are configured at 33% throttle and 67% braking. In other words, the retarder is applied to 1/3 its capacity when the throttle pedal is released. It is then applied to its full capacity when the brake pedal is depressed.

25
Q

How much psi is needed to operate the steps?

A

85 psi is needed to raise the steps

26
Q

What is a possible solution for steps that aren’t operating correctly?

A

On newer trucks, there is a main step system compressor cut-off switch, marked in red. If compressor will not operate or steps stay in the down position and raise when the trucks is started, check the compressor cut-off switch position.

27
Q

When checking transmission, what temperature ranges are considered “cold” and “hot”?

A

60-120 degrees is considered cold;

160-200 degrees is considered hot

28
Q

What temperature “mode” should the transmission be checked in?

A

transmission should be checked in “hot” mode

29
Q

What is procedure for checking transmission fluid level?

A
  1. park on level surface
  2. shift to N, apply parking brake
  3. shift to D, N, R, and then back to N and leave engine idling for 2 minutes
  4. wipe dipstick clean, check fluid level for appropriate level according to temperature
30
Q

What is the volume that would make up the difference between “low” and “full” on the transmission fluid dipstick?

A

1 gallon is the difference between “low” and “full”
