List Engine Start MTF Checks

A

(1) Engine Start systems — Check.
(2) ENGINE IGNITION switch — OFF.
(3) FUEL PUMP switch — OFF.
(4) ENG POWER CONT lever — OFF.
(5) HEATER switches — ON.
(6) Engine start button — Press and hold until NG begins to increase. Note that the heater drops off line.
(7) PRIME BST PUMP ON advisory appears when the starter is engaged and disappears when the starter drops out.
(8) NG SPEED should increase to at least 24%.
(9) Abort start by pulling out the ENG POWER CONT lever and checking that the starter drops out.
(10) Heater comes back on line.
(11) Repeat steps b. through d. for the other engine.

Five typical engine start malfunctions experienced with the APU as the air source.

A

(1)Starter will not stay engaged.

NOTE: If an ENGINE STARTER caution disappears when the starter button is released, and the ENG POWER CONT lever is OFF, the start attempt may be continued by pressing and holding the starter button until 52% to 65% NG SPEED is reached; then release the button.

(2) No rise in TGT, Oil Pressure, or %RPM 1 or 2.
(3) TGT rise above 850° C.
(4) Starter dropout prior to 52% Ng

CAUTION: If start is attempted with ENGINE IGNITION switch OFF, do not place switch ON. Complete EMER ENG SHUTDOWN procedure.

(5) Starter does not disengage past 65% Ng.
