Comm/Nav Flashcards
What manual contains magnetic compass swing procedures?
Both the TM 1-1500-204-23 and TM 1-1520-BLACKHAWK contains the magnetic compass swing procedures.
What manual covers the ARC-201 VHF/FM radio set troubleshooting?
The TM 1-1520-BLACKHAWK covers the ARC-201 VHF/FM radio set troubleshooting.
What manual contains the maintenance test flight procedures?
The TM 1-1520-237-MTF contains the maintenance test flight procedures.
Which is not one of the steps in the testing/troubleshooting of the pitot-static system?
Free Air Temperature gage test. Setup, Altimeter/VSI test, Airspeed indicator test, Barometric altimeter lighted bezel, and shutdowns are the five steps of testing/troubleshooting the pitot-static system.
When does a standby compass compensation need to be completed?
The standby compass compensation is completed whenever there is a modification or change to the electrical system or major structural changes, compass is suspected of being in error, flux valve loose, removed or replaced and every 12 months.
What is not a reason for a compass replacement?a.air visible in the bowlb.failure of card to rotate freelyc.total deviation of the eight headings exceeds 5 degreesd.clouded or discolored liquid
Total deviation of the eight headings exceeds 5 degrees. Compass replacement criteria includes clouded or discolored liquid, illegible card markings, failure of card to rotate freely, cracked bowl, broken frame, or broken lugs, erratic action, or failure of compass to respond after compensating, lubber line loose or missing, air visible in bowl, if the total deviation of the eight headings exceed 8 degrees.
The standby compass compensation must be completed when any of the following occurs:
The standby compass compensation must be completed when any of the following occurs:Modification or change to the electrical system, major structural changes, compass is suspected of being in error, flux valve loose, removed, or replaced, and every 12 months.

Make sure Tug is at least …………… from the compass/aircraft being calibrated.
100 feet
Audio junction box location and purpose
The Audio Junction Box is located below the lower console radios. All intercom and radio transmission/reception goes through the junction box. Audio from IFF, radar warning set, VOR/LOC, ADF, Marker Beacon, engine out, low rotor and stabilator passes through the junction box. Also flood light control voltage to the cabin and troop commander ICS.
What component compensates for deviations caused by unwanted magnetic fields?
The Magnetic compensator compensates for deviations caused by unwanted magnetic fields.
How many feet away from the aircraft should a tug be placed during a compass swing?
A tug should be placed at least 100 feet from the aircraft during compass swing.
Which component displays pitch and roll attitude, turn rate, slip and skid?
The Vertical Situation Indicator (VSI) displays pitch and roll attitude, turn rate, slip and skid.
What navigational set computes present position and bearing, time, and distance to selected destinations?
Doppler/Global Positioning Set (GPS) Navigation Set computes present position and bearing, time, and distance to selected destinations.
What antenna is contained inside the Quad Antenna?
The Quad Antenna contains VHF/AM, and the non-directional sense antennas.
