Engine Start/Ignition Flashcards
What 2 ENG indications are displayed full time on EICAS?
N1 and EGT
What happens when you pull start switch w/AUTOSTART ON?
- Arms the start valve
- Opens ENG bleed air valve
What happens when you pull start switch w/AUTOSTART OFF?
- Opens start valve
- Opens ENG bleed air valve
- Start Light Illumes
What happens at 50% N2 during ENG start?
- Start valve closes
- ENG bleed air valve closes
- Start light extinguishes
- Ignition discontinues
IGNITION – AUTO Switch in the SINGLE position?
- EEC alternates after every 2nd ground start
- BUT -
- EEC still selects both for in-flight start/flameout
STBY IGNITION Selector in NORM?
AC PWR system supplies power to igniter(s) selected with the AUTO IGNITION selector. If AC system is not powered, the STBY PWR SYS supplies power continuously to both ignitors.
What happens when CON IGNITION turned on?
- Selected IGN operates continuously
- Command approach idle minimum
Selected igniter(s) AUTOMATICALLY operate continuously for what conditions?
- ENG start w/N2
X-BLD mean w/displayed next to N2 when ENG shutdown?
- Current flight level for ENG start envelope exceeded
- Crossbleed air is necessary for start
How many igniters for ground/air start?
- One ground
- Two air
ENG start seq with AUTOSTART ON?
- SS out arms start valve
- SS out opens bleed valve
- Fuel control switch RUN initiates start seq
- EEC opens start valve/start light illumes
- At N2, EEC opens fuel metering valve/energized IGN
3 malfunctions monitored for aborted start by EEC?
- Hot Start
- Hung Start
- No EGT Rise
How does EEC protect against hot/hung start?
- Cuts off fuel
- Adjust fuel sched
- Reapplies fuel for another attempt (Max 3)
How does EEC protect against no EGT rise during start?
- Cuts fuel and IGN
- ENG motors for 30 sec
- Applies fuel + IGN for another attempt (Max 3)
What EGT limit does EEC abort in-flight start during AUTOSTART?
The takeoff limit
