Engine Brakes And Retarders Flashcards

1
Q

What is an internal engine brake
(Compression released brakes)

A

Engine brakes that work by causing a sudden release of the compressed air from the cylinder by quickly opening the exhaust valve near TDC of the compression stroke.

Q

Your remote hyd or electric retarded is mounted where

A

Between trans and rear end, put in place of carrier bearing. Uses hyd or electric force to slow down. If it’s hyd it’ll have a cooler if it’s electric it’s air cooled
