Air Conditioning Flashcards
What are the 3 types of air conditioning compressors
- Piston
2.rotary vane
3.scroll
What is a condenser, what’s it do
A component that transfers heat heat from the system to the atmosphere, turns gas into liquid
What does the compressor do in an air conditioning system
Pressurizes and circulates refrigerant throughout the system
What is a TXV valve
Controls the high pressure liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator.
What is a btu
A British thermal unit, the amount of energy required to heat or cool one pound of water 1°F
What are the principles of refrigeration
- To refrigerate is to remove heat
Ac clutch is hooked up in what
In series, disconnecting any of these components will disable the compressor
Saturated temperature
Temperature at which refrigerant will change from liquid to Vapor, vapor to liquid at a given pressure
What is a trinary switch
Low mid and high range
What is a binary switch
High and low
What is the first step of diagnostics on ac
Identify refrigerant
If you are injecting anything into the system which side do you inject it in
The low side (suction side)
If the sight lass is clear what does that indicate
System ok
Overcharged
No refrigerant
If there is foam, bubbles or mist in the sight glass what does this indicate
Refrigerant is low
Possible air in the system
If the oil is streaked what does this indicate
Possibly low low on refrigerant
Too much oil
If sight glass is cloudy what does this indicate
Desiccant beads broke down
System contaminated
What gloves do you use when handling ac
Non leather
If you have high pressure on both sides
Overcharged ac
If you have low pressure on boths sides
Undercharged
If your low side is lower than normal and high side is higher than normal
Blocked txv or orifice
If low side is high and high side is low
Compressor is not operating properly
