Energy resources and their uses Flashcards
What are non renewable energy resources
Fossil fuels and nuclear fuels.
What are fossil fuels and main fossil fuels are ..
natural resources that form underground over million of years and burnt to provide energy.
- coal
- oil
- gas
- All run out one day
- damage to our environmet
- provide most of our energy
Renewable energy resources
1) Sun - solar
2) wind
3) water waves
4) hydro-electricity
5) bio - fuel
6) tides
7) geothermal
They never run out - renewed as used
most damage environment but in a less nasty damaging way
disadvantages of Renewable energy resources
1) don’t provide much energy
2) unreliable as they depend on weather
Why is energy resourced used for?
with Non renewable and renewable examples
used for transport where fuel is used.
Non renewable
- petrol, diesel powered vehicles use fuel created from oil
- coal used in old fashioned stream trains to boil water to produce steam
Renewable
Vehicles that run on pure bio fuels or mix of bio fuels and petrol or diesel
How is energy resources used for? - H
with Non renewable and renewable examples
Heating
Non renewable
- Natural gas is most widely used fuel for heating in UK, the gas is used to heat water, which is then pumped into radiators throughout the home
- Coal is often burnt in fireplaces
- electric heaters which use electricity generated from non renewable energy resources
Renewable
- A geothermal heat pump used geothermal energy resources to heat buildings
- Solar water heaters work by using sun to heat water which is then pumped into radiators in buildings
- Burning bio-fuel or using electricity generated from renewable resources can also be used for heating.
