Energy Reaction In Cells Flashcards
What is metabolism?
The set of processes which derive energy and raw materials from food and use them to support repair, growth and the activity of the tissues of the body to sustain life.
What are the main types of metabolic pathways?
Catabolic and anabolic pathways
What is a catabolic pathway?
A pathway which breaks down larger molecules into smaller ones, releasing energy.
What is an anabolic pathway?
Forms larger molecules from smaller molecules using energy released from catabolism.
Difference between exergonic and endergonic?
Exergonic releases energy (G<0), endergonic requires energy (G>0)
Creatine phosphate equation
Creatine + ATP <ā> Creatine phosphate + ADP
(Creatine kinase)
When is creatine phosphate formed?
Formed when the ATP concentration is high. If ATP conc falls, reaction reverses to boost ATP
What is creatinine
A breakdown product of creatine and creatine phosphate, produced by a spontaneous reaction at a constant rate.
