Energy movement through an ecosystem part 2 Flashcards
What is a food chain?
A simple, linear model that shows how energy moves from producers to consumers. Ex: sum - grass - grasshopper - shrew - Owl.
What is a food web?
An interrelated (connected) food chain’s within an ecosystem and shows all possible feeding relationships.
Which level do producers come in on the trophic level?
Producers are always on the first trophic level.
Which level do primary consumers are in?
Primary Consumers are in the 2nd trophic level.
Which level do secondary consumers are in?
Secondary Consumers are in the 3rd trophic level.
Which level do tertiary consumers are in?
Tertiary Consumers are in the 4th trophic level.
Which level do Quaternary Consumers are in?
Quaternary Consumers are in the 5th trophic level.
How does energy flow in trophic levels?
Energy flows from the lowest to the highest trophic level.
How much percent does energy get lost from one trophic level to the next?
90%
How much percent does the energy get transferred to the next trophic level?
10%
Which type of consumer is a primary consumer?
Herbivores
Which type of consumer is a secondary consumer?
Carnivores/Omnivores
Which type of consumer is a tertiary consumer?
Carnivores/Omnivores
Which type of consumer is a quarternary consumer?
Carnivores/Omnivores
What does the stability of a food web depend on?
PRODUCERS
