Energy Continuum (A2) Flashcards
What is the energy continuum?
The relative contribution of each energy system towards overall energy production
What is each energy system dependent on in the energy continuum?
Intensity and duration of activity
Intermittent exercise definition:
Exercise whereby the intensity alternates
Either during interval training, or during breaks in play of a game
What are the percentages of anaerobic energy production (10, 20, 30 seconds)?
10 seconds - 90% anaerobic
20 seconds - 80% anaerobic
30 seconds - 70% anaerobic
What are the percentages of anaerobic energy production (2, 4, 10, 30 60, 120 mins)
2 - 50% anaerobic 4 - 35% anaerobic 10 - 15% anaerobic 30 - 5% anaerobic 60 - 2% anaerobic 120 - 1% anaerobic
What is the ATP-PC LA threshold?
The point at which the ATP-PC energy system is exhausted and the glycolytic system (LA) is dominant
What is the LA O2 threshold?
The point at which the Glycolytic (LA) energy system is exhausted and the Aerobic System (O2) is dominant
When is OBLA reached?
Blood lactate values go above 4 mmol
How quickly are PC stores replenished?
50% in 30 seconds
100% in 3 mins
