Energy Flashcards
What is an exothermic reaction?
A reaction in which energy is given out into the surroundings
What is an endothermic reaction?
A reaction in which energy is taken in from their surroundings
Describe the exothermic process in terms of bond breaking and bond formation
For exothermic reaction, the energy taken it to break the reactant bonds is less than the energy given out when the product is formed.
What is a hydrogen fuel cell?
This is when hydrogen gas reacts with oxygen gas to produce electricity which can be used as a fuel.
What is bond energy?
Is the energy needed to break bonds or released when same bonds form.
What is activation energy?
It is the minimum energy that colliding particles must have in order to react
Describe the endothermic process in terms of bond breaking and bond formation?
For endothermic reaction, the energy taken in to break the reactant bonds is more than the energy given out when product is formed.
