Energy Flashcards
Definition
Ability to do work or make a change
Chemical energy
Energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules
Chemical energy
Energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules
Chemical energy
Energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules
Kinetic energy
Is the energy an object has because of its motion
Heat energy
Is transferred by particles bouncing into each other
Light energy
Has the abiolity to make types of light visible to human eyes
Electrical energy
Is the flow of charge
Sound energy
Occurs when an object vibrates
Potential energy
Energy that is stored in an object and is ready to be used
Biogas energy
Is an environmentally-friendly, renewable energy source
Mechanical energy
Is the energy that is possessed by an object due to its motion/position
Energy source
- Renewable energy
- Non - renewable energy
- Food
Renewable energy
- Unlimited
- Ex. wind energy
Non - renewable energy
- Limited
- Ex. coal, nuclear
Food
- Carbohydrate : rice, noodles
- Protein : animal, fish and eggs
- Protein : plants, soybeans and peanuts
- Fat/lipid : animal, butter
- Fat/lipid : plants, avocado
Energy transformation
Is the process of changing energy from one form to another. Energy transformation takes place in cell organelles
Energy transformation by chlorophyll
- Light energy is converted into chemical energy which is stored in carbohydrate/glucose molecules
- Photosynthesis : Carbon dioxide + water, with the help of light, it produces carbohydrate/glucose + oxygen
- This energy is used by plants for activities and is also used by other living things that consume these plants
Energy transformation by mitochondria
- Chemical energy is used to convert carbohydrate, protein, fats into chemical energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate)
- ATP is an energy carrier molecules
