Dr Sadao’s final plan To help the personal escape to the nearby island from where he could flee in a Korean fishing boat was the best possible solution.
How is the theme of racism reflected in the story
- Because of the stress also thou’s father on “purity of race” and traditionalism, Sadao didn’t start a relationship with Hannah because he was sure that she “had been feared in her race”.
Why did the messenger come to Doctor Sadao?
Shadow was being called to the palace to treat the ailing general.
How did Hannah help Dr Sadao during the operation
- Sadao asked her to fetch towels.
- He asked her to help him to turn the wounded man.
- he asked her to administer an anesthetic to the wounded white man, if required. He also instructed her to soak cotton with the anaesthetic and hold it near his nostrils.
why was Sadao irritable and impatient with his patient?
So thou heard Hannah vomiting in the garden. Distress and inability to go out to her at once made him impatient and irritable with his patient he was faced with the dilemma of whether he was doing the right thing in treating the patient who had caused so much inconvenience.

The symbolism of blood is expansive
- Blood can also be symbolically a representative of the poison of nationalistic pride that is passed among like racism and prejudice.
How is the “Fog” Symbolic?
- The fog which appears right before the American soldier shows up, symbolizes Sadao and Hana’s predicament and the lack of clarity concerning what they should do with the man on the beach. It might also symbolize secrecy.
