What is endometriosis?
A
ectopic growth of endometrial tissue growth outside of the uterine cavity

How does endometriosis present?
A
- dysmenorrhoea - pain starts a few days before bleeding and stops after bleeding
- deep dyspareunia
- sub-fertility
- LUTS +/- haematuria
- dyschaezia (painful passing of stool)

What is the gold-standard investigation for endometriosis?
A
- laparoscopy
- can also treat any plaques there at the same time

Q
How do you treat endometriosis? What if they want to preserve fertility?
A
- NSAIDS +/- paracetomol for symptomatic relief
- triphasic COCP (take for 3/12)
- Mirena coil
preserved fertility
- GnRH analogues (induced pseudomenopause low oestrogen levels - risk of osteo and meno Sx)
- lap incision or laser Tx
