Endodontics Instruments Flashcards
What is a DG16 instrument?
endodontic explorer, a double ended instrument with straight pointed probes
What is a DG16 used for?
to locate the canal orifices, especially in posterior teeth
What is an endodontic spoon excavator?
a double ended excavator with a long shank in order to reach deep into prepared cavities
What burrs can you use for access cavities?
Diamond round burrs, goose-neck burrs, transmetal burr, endo z burr, tapered diamond burr
When would you use a diamond round burr?
to gain entry into tooth structure and restorative materials
When would you use a goose-neck burr?
to reach pulp as they have long shanks to provide good visibility
When would you use a transmetal burr?
to cut metal such as gaining access through crowns or metal restorations
When would you use an endo z burr?
To deroof the pulp chamber once the chamber has been breached due to its non-cutting tip
When would you use a tapered diamond burr?
to flatten, flare and finish the axial walls of the pulp chamber
What is one way to classify endodontic instruments?
By the method of use?
What are group 1 instruments?
hand-operated endodontic instruments
Give three examples of group 1 instruments
broaches and rasps, K files, Hedstrom files
What are group 2 instruments?
Low speed instruments with latch ty attachment
Give two examples of group 2 instruments
gates-glidden drills and peeso reamers
What are group 3 instruments?
engine driven instruments
